Last night was our special ‘relaxed’ performance in association with Mousetrap Theatre Projects - entirely for children with special sensory and communication needs and their families. It was a wonderful evening that gave many families the opportunity to visit the theatre together for the first time. We are very proud of our tremendous cast and company, and grateful to the theatre staff and the fantastic team at Mousetrap Theatre Projects, who made this event possible.

It was lovely to see so many smiling faces in the audience, and hear everyone singing along to I’m A Believer at the end!

FAIRYTALES AT THE TRICYCLE THEATRE

Join us at the Tricycle Theatre on Saturday 19 May for a special royal visit from Princess Fiona, who will be reading some of her favourite fairytales! (Click here to catch a cheeky glimpse of some of our other fairytale characters caught on camera telling their stories.)

This is a free event (although spaces will be limited and are on a first-come basis) and there will be Shrek The Musical goody bags for all the children, as well as the chance to take your photo with the princess!

These are the lucky winners from our First Anniversary Fete on Sunday 6 May:

Marja won a family ticket to see SHREK THE MUSICAL by having the best aim in Pin the Tail on Donkey!

Daisy McCormick ( age 8 ) won the Jelly Belly hamper by guessing the correct number of Jelly Belly Beans in this Shrek portrait! (This competition is still running at the theatre, with another hamper to be won!)

Georgia Ashpole ( age 11 ) won a family ticket to see SHREK THE MUSICAL and a backstage tour by finding all the Gingys in Covent Garden in our Gingy Hunt!

OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY FAMILY FETE!

We’re celebrating our first anniversary in style this week… On Sunday 6th May we threw open our doors for a great big family-friendly Fete at the theatre, complete with donkey rides, face painting, fairytale readings and even a green chocolate fountain! Olivier Awards Success!

This year the Olivier Awards were bursting with Shrektacular cheer as our Fairytale ensemble took to the Royal Opera House stage to let their Freak Flag fly, and our Princess Kimberley Walsh performed a duet with the very dashing Ronan Keating!

We are also thrilled to congratulate Nigel Harman on winning the award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role, for his performance as Lord Farquaad – thoroughly well deserved! And congratulations from all of us here at the swamp to all the other nominees and winners!

It’s coming up to our first anniversary here at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and we are celebrating in style! On Sunday 6th May we will be throwing open our doors for an ogre-sized Family Fete down at the swamp. There will be lots of party games and activities, opportunities to meet the cast, some sweet treats and exciting competitions, and best of all – it’s all FREE!

SPECIAL PERFORMANCE WITH MOUSETRAP THEATRE PROJECTS

We are delighted to be working with the good people at Mousetrap Theatre Projects to offer a special ‘relaxed’ performance of Shrek The Musical on Wednesday 16th May. This will be a family performance for children with special needs, and we are thrilled that the demand for tickets has been overwhelming and we have completely sold out! Look out for the photos and stories from this very special evening.

In partnership with Mousetrap Theatre Projects, we have also produced a new Special Educational Needs resource – a ‘visual journey’ all about visiting our swamp at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

WE HAVE A HEART!

We donated a Shrektastic prize to the Have a Heart appeal on Heart FM, and our lovely Princess Kimberley Walsh went along to auction it live on air! Here she is with radio DJ Neil Bentley. We raised £2,350 contributing to a grand total of £348,546 which will help to fund ChildLine’s free phone and online service offering support and advice for any child who has nowhere left to turn.

PRINCESS FIONA OPENS A SCHOOL!

Our feisty princess paid a special royal visit to a primary school in Islington, London to help them celebrate their launch this week. Children from all year groups at the New North Academy helped tell Princess Fiona and a specially invited audience the story of their school’s journey, with their own readings, paintings and songs. We at the swamp are thrilled for the kids at New North, and hope that they all live happily ever after!

SPRUCE UP YOUR SWAMP AT THE IDEAL HOME SHOW!
